Our History & Mission

Our History

Sunset Science Park Federal Credit Union (SSPFCU) was chartered in 1960 by 8 people from Electro Scientific Industries (ESI). In 1977 the credit union’s field of membership was expanded to allow all employees located on Science Park Drive to join. The credit union is a not-for-profit financial institution governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, so money generated by the credit union is given back to the members in the form of lower loan rates and higher savings yields.

In 1994 the credit union moved off the park to its current location and expanded its membership base to include businesses and residents of the Cedar Mill area. Because the members wanted to refer their neighbors and friends to Sunset Science Park Federal Credit Union, a Community Charter was granted in 2016 to include anyone who lives, works and worships or attends school in Washington County.

In 2025, it was decided that “Science Park” should be dropped from the name to reflect the significant changes that have been made at the credit union throughout the past 25 years. With the consent of NCUA, we are now Sunset Federal Credit Union. Noticeable changes include a new logo and branding, a branch remodel and a new website. What has not changed is our relationship-based service model, our fiscally responsible management standard and our commitment to providing the best products and features to securely safeguard your money. Your success is our success.

If you live, work, attend school or worship in Washington County, you belong here.
